Harlow & Ratner books are known for their depth, functionality, and beauty. Less well known is the fact that our contributions to the book world go far beyond the titles we have published ourselves. Jay Harlow and Elaine Ratner, founders of Harlow & Ratner and now partners in Astolat Productions, have written 15 books between them, and edited more than 50. Before launching Harlow & Ratner, we made our living packaging books for other companies. We are pleased to be able to offer that service again. Cookbooks and food-related books are our specialty, but our project list also includes books on California history, gardening, psychology, spirituality, jazz, and writing.

We offer writing services for books in our areas of expertise, including cooking, food production, and related environmental issues. We also write compelling jacket copy and eminently quotable news releases.

Our editing services are available in all subject areas for trade books in English. We do not do academic editing. We will rework translations from foreign languages into smooth, idiomatic English.

We offer graphic design, photography, illustration, and art production services for trade books in all subject areas.
